The National Rural Transit Assistance Program (National RTAP) invites you to participate in the 6th National RTAP Conference, Wrangling Access and Mobility in Rural and Tribal Transit, to be held December 7-10, 2025, in Austin, TX at the Hyatt Regency Austin. The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is the conference co-sponsor.
Lillian Karabaic will deliver the keynote presentation at our conference. She is the host of Oregon Public Broadcasting's Weekend Edition and also hosted Stop Requested, a series about traveling around Oregon on Public Transit.
Please consider submitting a presentation proposal to be included in one of 30 breakout conference sessions. Conference workshops and panels will occur in five routes (see below). We welcome presentations of interest to our audience of rural and tribal transit managers, rural and regional planners, intercity bus operators, State DOT, FTA, researchers, and others with an interest in rural or tribal transportation. Presentation proposals should address how transportation services impact lives and create measurable benefits in communities.
Summaries will be reviewed by the conference planning committee; you will be contacted once a decision is made about your proposed presentation or if more information is needed. We expect to send acceptance notifications by mid-May 2025.
Thank you for your interest and dedication to improving quality of life through rural, tribal, and intercity transportation services!
A Session Summary is a brief paragraph describing what you propose to present. We suggest you highlight the practical lessons you would share with our audience. Please be sufficiently specific. Please also avoid any product or professional services focused presentations. We’d love to hear how your services are implemented but will not accept commercials.
Students are invited to submit a poster for the 6th National RTAP Conference to be shown on December 7, 2025 in Austin, TX. Posters for consideration must be sent by October 1, 2025 to
info@nationalrtap.org and students must be able to present their posters in-person.
The National RTAP Walk of Fame will be exhibited at our 6th National RTAP Technical Assistance Conference. The Walk of Fame is an event that recognizes exemplary staff in the rural and Tribal transit industry for their dedication, innovation, customer service, and professionalism. Each honoree will be showcased on a special Walk of Fame tile, highlighted in a National RTAP YouTube video, and receive a commendation. Honorees that attend the conference will also receive an additional award.
To submit a nomination, send the nominee’s name, title, transit agency, email address, and phone number, a photograph of the nominee in jpeg or png format, along with a paragraph (500 character limit) about why they should be honored, to
info@nationalrtap.org by October 10, 2025.

" National RTAP offers one-stop shopping for rural and tribal transit technical assistance products and services. Call, email, or chat with us and if we can’t help with your request, we’ll connect you with someone who can! "
" You go above and beyond and I wanted to let you know that I appreciate it so much and always enjoy my time with you. The presentations give me so much to bring back to my agency and my subrecipients. "
" I always used the CASE (Copy And Steal Everything) method to develop training materials until I discovered RTAP. They give it to you for free. Use it! "
" National RTAP provides an essential service to rural and small transit agencies. The products are provided at no cost and help agencies maximize their resources and ensure that their employees are trained in all aspects of passenger service. "
" We were able to deploy online trip planning for Glasgow Transit in less than
90 days using GTFS Builder. Trip planning information displays in a riders'
native language, which supports gencies in travel training and meeting Title VI
mandates. "
" Having a tool like GTFS Builder is really light years ahead of what it used to be at one time in terms of how fast you can put everything together. Our university students really can't imagine transit without it, so I think it's very important for us in terms of attracting that particular demographic. "
" In the past we used proprietary database software that was very challenging, very murky, and hard to update. GTFS Builder is a great opportunity to make this more user-friendly, more readily updatable and it
would enable us to show how to create a GTFS to more of the staff. "
" Collaboration is a buzz word these days in the industry. On behalf of our Tribal segment, I appreciate RTAP for making Tribes a partner in industry opportunities. The organization goes over and beyond reaching partners one would not expect in a busy industry such as public transportation. Thank you for your tireless efforts! "
"We are so very thankful for all your transportation training materials. Your resources are as valuable as gold!"
