How-to Guide For Marketing Transit
Marketing Tools and Templates

Newspapers have lost readership in urban areas, but smaller communities often have an advantage, supporting local newspapers that have loyal readers. When your budget permits, newspaper display advertising is a solid marketing strategy. Newspaper display ads attract attention with design elements such as graphics, photos, and appealing font sizes and styles. If you time your display ads with news releases published in the paper, you’ll heighten the impact of your announcement.
Two types of newspaper ads are particularly effective for transit:
Your newspaper sales representatives can help you determine the size of your ad and where in the paper it should run. They may be able to produce the ad graphic for you or you can create your own with the help of the templates below.
Many local newspapers now have online editions where you can place
digital ads; in some cases, these can be targeted towards geographic locations or even characteristics of the readers you want to reach.
We’ve provided some templates for print ads in various sizes, but your local newspaper may require a different size. You can create a new ad at the appropriate size in Canva, and can copy-paste the contents of the template ad into your new ad.

" Having a tool like GTFS Builder is really light years ahead of what it used to be at one time in terms of how fast you can put everything together. Our university students really can't imagine transit without it, so I think it's very important for us in terms of attracting that particular demographic. "
" In the past we used proprietary database software that was very challenging, very murky, and hard to update. GTFS Builder is a great opportunity to make this more user-friendly, more readily updatable and it
would enable us to show how to create a GTFS to more of the staff. "
" Collaboration is a buzz word these days in the industry. On behalf of our Tribal segment, I appreciate RTAP for making Tribes a partner in industry opportunities. The organization goes over and beyond reaching partners one would not expect in a busy industry such as public transportation. Thank you for your tireless efforts! "
